Director of Donor Engagement

Blue Heron Headwaters Conservancy, located in Clarkston, Michigan, seeks a full-time dedicated fundraiser to join the committed staff. We are a fifty-year-old non-profit organization, expanding its mission to protect land and water for the benefit of current and future generations.  A dynamic and experienced individual is sought to create deep donor relationships leading to major gifts, planned giving, capital campaign contributions, increased giving levels and donor retention.  Working closely with the Executive Director and supported by current communications, database and event planning personnel, the Director of Donor Engagement will expand the fundraising potential to meet Strategic Planning goals.  The ideal candidate will be a creative thinker, engaging multi-tasker, team worker and be able to bring  entrepreneurial fundraising leadership to direct a new approach to donor engagement. Salary in the mid $50’s depending on experience.  Open until filled.

Land Researcher

On-going part-time work; volunteer


Our conservancy is seeking a passionate supporter of the environment who will locate and research land preservation opportunities. BHHC is working in the headwaters of Oakland-Genesee-Livingston streams. Online research and travel for ground truthing required. Travel reimbursement possible. Call Susan Julian, Exec. Outdoor Stewardship Employee

Part-time; 20 hours/wk; flexible schedule
Start date: May - August 2023
Pay $15.00/hour


Requirements:  Has own transportation, physical ability to perform strenuous tasks; willingness to learn forestry and stewardship skills; team worker; reliability in task completion; experienced in chainsaw usage; ability to write reports
Duties:  Cut and treat woody invasive brush and trees on conservancy property trail maintenance; sign construction and placement; boundary marking; and other maintenance activities on properties in a six-township area. This is step 1 in improving habitat for wildlife. Supervised by
BHHC Field Stewardship Coordinator.

Bird Habitat Improvement

Part-time volunteer position May-August

BHHC is looking for an intern who has some interest and knowledge in ornithology, is a good researcher, enjoys being and working outside, and can conduct indoor and outdoor recordkeeping. Intern will work to assess and improve bird habitat on a number of properties and will report to a supervisor. If interested, please contact Sue Julian at 248-785-2808.

About Our Internship Opportunities

BHHC seeks to shape a project according to the skills and interests of college interns.  For the assistance interns give us, we attempt to round out their education with hands-on projects that further their goals in lieu of payment.  A student working with NOHLC could gain experience in a number of areas:

* project planning
* land restoration
* climate change actions
* wildlife preservation
* communications--short profiles
* event planning
* non-profit administration
